The following exercise is
a simple way to develop intuition, access inner guidance,
and unblock creativity.
1. Find a quiet place where you can feel at peace and where you won't be interrupted.
2. Have your writing pen in hand as well
as a journal or pad of paper to write on. Settle into a
comfortable sitting position. (I personally find it
is easier to do automatic writing in my lap sitting on a
comfortable chair or couch than it is sitting at a table.)
3. It works best to have an 'intent' when you do automatic
writing. So before starting the exercise, at the top of the page write today's date and
the subject you would
like guidance on. If you have a specific question
then write your question or if you would like general
guidance on a subject then write a brief statement on what
you are looking to accomplish.
4. Take a few moments to do a brief relaxation and
mental-clearing exercise and center yourself. (This is one
I use but feel free to do any that you are comfortable
with.) Tune into your
breathing. Count to five as you deeply inhale
through the nose, 1,2,3,4,5, hold for a count of five,
1,2,3,4,5, exhale through the mouth for a count of five,
1,2,3,4,5, wait for a count of five before inhaling again,
1,2,3,4,5. Repeat this cycle five or six times. and take a few slow, deep breaths.
The focusing on your breath and counting will clear the
mind of other thoughts. the deep slow breathing will relax your mind and body.
5. Mentally ground
yourself. Feel the ground beneath you. Imagine that you
have a strong grounding cord (a rope, or chain or root,
whatever feels right to you) running from the base of your spine down
through the earth for thousands of miles to
the very center of the earth. Then feel the energy of the earth
come up through the base of your spine, up through your
entire body, and out through the top of your head,
connecting with the universe above. Now imagine that a
blue-white light comes down from the heavens above and enters your body
through your crown chakra, at the top of your head. Imagine this
light flowing down the center of your body, then out
through the base of your spine and traveling down to the
center of the earth, anchoring you between the earth below
and the stars above.
6. Next ask for the highest guidance possible to answer
your question. The pen is held in the writing position
with the point resting lightly on the writing surface. When you
feel ready start
writing whatever comes into your mind (maybe I should say
whatever comes into your hand.). Do this without stopping.
You will read what you have written later. At this
time do not try to analyze or evaluate
what you are writing (even if it does not seem to be
answering your
question.) Simply write until your hand is finished. Then read what you
have written.
